Q1: Is it permissible to eat food and meat presented to me on a Christmas day if the meat was slaughtered by the Christen friend not by a Muslim?

A: No, it is not permissible.

Q2: We have recently learned that in the UK animals are stunned with electricity to make them unconcscious before they are slaughtered. Is this allowed according to Shia fiqh, and if so up to what level of stunning is allowed?

A: If its death was caused by electric shock, then it is prohibited to consume. If the shock just put the animal to sleep and death was caused by slaughtering the animal, then it is permitted to consume.

Q3: Can we eat food made by hindu but he does not use any haraam things in it but he uses his hands to make it are we allowed to eat that food?

A: If the food preparation involves transferring of wetness between the person's hand/body and the food then the food becomes impure - Nejis - and prohibited to consume based on compulsory precaution.

Q4: If I am sitting on a place in the cafe and a person sitting with me with wine or beer. It is permissable to go away from the place because he have alcoholic drink?

A: You should not use same dinning table with an alcohol drinker. If you and that person are dining separately - like using separate trays - but using the same table or happening to be in the same place then it is no mandatory to leave the table.

Q5: According to Shia jurisprudence, All impurities are Prohibited on devotees, for example those who are infidels, and Ghalis (who call Ali(As) God), Nawasibs who hate Ahlulbayt are impure..
My QUESTION is: "Wahabis, and Salafids" who hate Ali (AS) and have severe animosity towards Ahlulbayt when they slaughter halal Animal their Zabiha - Carcass will not be halal.. Am I correct?

A: If they hate the Ahlulbyte (Peace be upon them) then their slaughtered animal must be avoided based on compulsory precaution but if they hate the followers of the imams of the Ahlulbyte without hating their Imams (Peace be upon them), then it allowed to consume their slaughtered lawful - Halal - animal.

Q6: My aunt works in a bank and deals with getting customers to take products which involve interest. I found out that her income is haram but wanted to ask if the food she buys is considered haram too since it was bought with this money. I am asking as I go to her house sometimes and my family eats there. should I aviod it?

A: Yes, it is permitted.

Q7: Some of the cheese products manufactured in non-Muslim countries contain rennet extracted from the calf or other animals. We do not know whether the rennet was taken from the animal that was slaughtered according to Islamic laws; neither do we know that it has transformed into something else. So is it permissible to eat such cheese?

A: It is allowed to use the rennet that is extracted from an animal that was not slaughtered according to Islamic laws since it is tahir – pure and exempted from the prohibition to consume parts of the animal that was not slaughtered according to Islamic laws.

Q8: It says on the ingredients that it is gelatin, but it doesn't specify if it is with meat or vegetable gelatin. Is it permissible for me to still eat it, even though I do not know that what type of gelatin it is?

A: It is permissible to consume it unless it is known that it was originated from a prohibited to consume matters like impurity - Nejasah or meat of a dead animal – not slaughtered in accordance to Islamic laws.

Q9: Is it ok to eat Crab, lobster or Prawn. I live in Canada, try to avoid as much as I can, please let me know

A: Amongst the sea food, It is unlawful to consume but fish that contain shells and shrimp.

Q10: While having meal in restaurants, we are not sure about fish whether they are scaled or not. Can we eat fish without any investigation? If the waiter or the manager tells that fish is scaled, can we believe him and eat the fish?

A: It is permissible to depend on whoever has the authority over the fish if you do not accuse him/her of lying.
